One of the twelve Apostles of Jesus. He is also called Thaddaeus, Jude of James, Jude Thaddaeus, Judas Thaddaeus or Lebbaeus. He is usually depicted carrying the image of Jesus in his hand or close to his chest. He is also often depicted with a flame above his head, denoting his presence at Pentecost, where he received the Holy Spirit along with the other apostles. Because Jude and Judas are translations of the same Greek name, which is a variant of Judah and a name common among Jews of the time, he is often confused with Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Jesus.

Known as the patron saint of "lost causes" or "desperate situations", he is also the patron saint of Armenia, the City of St. Petersburg Florida, and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis Tennessee.
